As a result of the new BMW expansion, BMW X4 model will be added to the production lineup to fill the gap between the X3 and X5 models that the Spartanburg, SC plant already produces. Total number of new BMW to be built at the plant after the latest expansion will reach 350,000 a year, compared to 276,065 vehicles produced in 2011, which was already a 73 percent increase over previous year of 2010. Total vehicles produced at the plant since inception have exceeded two million, a milestone that BMW held an event to celebrate recently. Continued BMW expansion will benefit BMW’s U.S. market and its dealers, including BMW Chicago and BMW of Orland Park.

In addition to the X3 and X5 models, other models that have also been produced at the plant over the years include 318i, Z3, Z4, X6. The BMW X4 model is expected to launch in 2013 and will have the lower roofline and coupe styling of the larger BMW X6 model.
